well, there are about a million sites about SOf and military stuff, but i'm pretty sure, that's SPECIAL OPERATION.COM is the best one of them. i'm 21 years old guy from ISRAEL, and i guess you (Tom Hunter)don't know it, but i'm in one of your pictures (i can't tell wich one...) Anyway, i have a suggestion (sorry for my poor English): maybe you should make a whole different section of the Israeli army, like you did with the USA army? i'm not saying that the israeli army is as big as the USA army, but it is the best in the middle east, and maybe in whole europe (but i guess you already know that...) do what ever you think is right and KEEP ON THE GREAT WORK BUDDY!

I am doing a research paper on the special Forces and if they have actually helped with the Military I would very much like it if you could e-mail me some stuff that could help me with the funding, usefulness and some things that you can give out to civilians. I know I am asking alot but I am really interested in Special Ops.

Thank You

I'd just like to comment on the letter from the Command Sgt. Major. He's right on every point he made. The most important of all training. I did 4 years active in the Marines, a grunt. I served as a squad leader in3/8. I ended up doing three more years in the reserves. Boot camp is weak. Mother's of America in their race to prevent their sons from suffering in boot camp will see them suffer in a future battefield because they weren't equipped with the discipline and fortitude to deal with the situaion. Then the Govt has shaved the budget to the point that the military is opting to use fats trainers in lieu of sendind rounds down range-it's cheaper. Nothing replaces actual realistic training..shooting and moving with live rounds in inclement weather in full gear. How else can small unit leaders practise controlling their troops movements over the din of small arms fire. How can the troops get a feel for the exhausting and demanding feel involved with this training...ah well I agree with the sgt.maj I'm disgusted.

I was also wondering if you published a newsletter which you send out because I would appreciate receiving it. THank you.

I am doing research on Desert Strom and I would love for someone to e-mail me stories of the war, you know, personal experiences. It would be such a great help. I loved the site and I will probably come here more often just to read up on things that happened during the Gulf War. Please e-mail me and give me some really good stories if someone can!! As a member of the Special Operations community, a 37F PSYOP Senior NCO, I would like to point something out to you. PSYOP and CA are USASOC units. PSYOP and CA are not in your menu under ARSOF units. Suggest that you re-think your menu and place PSYOP and CA where they are in real life: in Army Special Operations, part of USASOC. Also suggest you add the 4th CAG (Civil Affairs Group) to your USMC listing. USMC's 4th CAG is a genuine USMC Special Operations unit, not merely "Special Operations Capable."

I would just like to say that I have the utmost respect for anyone in any of the Special Operations, I have always been facinated by any story that I have heard of read. I believe it is the young men and women who strive to do the best in our nations defense that allows us all (joe public) to rest a little easier at night, please keep up the great work on this website, I think what you are doing is fantastic, especially the uncovering of the fakes, I think that is awesome, I don't know how many times I've been in a bar talking to someone who is a so called "Navy SEAL/ex spook/anti-terrorism expert" I think it's cool to fantisize, about being some great military special forces BADASS!!, when your out on the paintball field, but when you return to reality, leave your dillusions on the playing field, personally I just can't figure out how someone could lie about something so important and honorable, I guess they tell the lie so many times it starts to be real for themselves, anyway, thanks for the great information, and stories Sincerely Will Pylate

Dear Mr. Hunter,

I have been a common visitor of your website many, many times and just wanted to say. . . well done. I too served three years in the U.S. Army as an infantryman, '95-'98. After being released, I began college and did very well for my first year and a half. However, I began to deeply miss the military. I had a chance to serve with the 1st Special Forces Group (for one month) during operation Cobra Gold '97 and developed a deep respect for the Special Ops. community. So, just this month I enlisted in the Army for the second time with an Airborne Ranger Medic contract. For me, it is my way of starting a career in special operations with my ultimate goal of later joining Special Forces. I just wanted to let you know that your personal note about why you created this site touched me and serves as a great motivator for me as I begin my journey in achieving my goals. Thank you and take care. Sincerely, Nathan B. Jones

Just found the site and took a quick peek around. I will return over time and study it closer. I did take a look at the list of books be reconners. I really enjoy reading them and have read about 15 already. There weren't many listed and none of the ones I've read were listed. Perhaps I didn't see the complete list or it wasn't complete. Great site guy's. Keep up the good work. May the force be with you! Regards, Art.

To the people of specialoperations.com and the families of our fallen heroes, I don't think words can describe the bravery of the efforts of MSG Gary Gordon and SFC Randall Shughart. Although many people do not fully understand or even know what these brave soldiers endured and accomplished I wish to pass that they are true heroes in every sense. After reading "Black Hawk Down" I paint a picture so clear in my mind that I feel so helpless. I wish to send my best to Specialoperations.com and the families of our heroes. They are gone but not forgotten.

Sincerely, Nicholas Bardis, Sra USAF

I have always been interested in all thing military especially military aviation and special operations forces. I have to say that this has to be the most comprehensive site on the Net on SF. As a Malaysian however I noticed that you have not included any reference to SF forces from Malaysia in your area for international SF forces. For an unofficial but exhaustive site on this you can point your browser to http://members.tripod.com/~gerak_khas, where you can obtain all the information you need on Malaysian military, paramilitary and police teams. Again, congratulations on a superb site.

Hello, to whom it may concern. My name is Antonio and I live in NYC. I am an illustrator and writer, and am fascinated with this subject- from tactics to gear to firearms, it is truly inspiring. I wanted to see if I could get my hands on any images of uniforms and equipment, for this story I am doing. What is just as important, I wnted to see if I could get my hands on any literature concerning tactics and procedure. Thanks for listening. One last thing- is there such a thing as a heartbeat sensor(like in Clancy's R6 game), or is it make-believe?

hello, I am Brian Ducote, son of Flloyd C Ducote. My dad just recently retired from the 160th SOAR. better known as "Chuck", he was a CW4 and was with the unit for a good number of years. Along with him, my step dad is Thomas H Smith, a CSGM in special forces who has been stationed at Fort Bragg, NC for a good number of years. Needless to say special ops runs in the family. They both pushed me to go air force spec ops, CCT/PJ, and after 8 weeks of the indoc course at lackland i blew my knee out. I am currently a disgruntled ammo troop who is sick of the laid back air force style of life. I'm looking to crosstrain back into pararescue, and do something with my life. This site is an awesome source of info for the large group of people who have not the slightest clue of what our military's spec ops do to keep our country free. My dads would, if their day permitted, enjoy this site.

sincerely,

SRA Brian C Ducote

I am a former E5 sailor. I did my time (6 years) including schools and boot camp. I just read the letter written by the command Seargent Major who retired. I can confirm that this problem is not limited to just the army. From the time that I first enlisted as a Fire Controlman, I saw recruiting and then recruiting standards decline. The first major noticeable area was general quality of personnel. There were people coming in who simply did not belong in the military. As my time grew short in the service, I made the only possible decision. I got out. As I told my commanding officer, "Why should I re-enlist, when I can get out of the Navy, get a better paying job, with better benefits, go home everyday, sleep in my own bed with my wife every night, and get better than 35% retirement? I would be a fool to re-enlist." The sad thing was that he agreed with me. We are getting in a position militarily, to screw ourselves. Have any of our so-called political leaders ever read "The Art of War" by TSUN SU?

I am a high school student interested in a military career. This site has been most informative, and I am deeply inspired by the patriotism and courage of the United States Special Operations forces. I hope to someday be a part of this awesome community composed of what I think are the best soldiers the free world has to offer.

THIS IS THE BEST SPECIAL OPERATIONS WEBB SITE I HAVE VISITED. I SPENT 22 YEARS FLYING ON AC-130 GUNSHIPS. I FLEW MY FIRST COMBAT MISSION IN FEB 1971 OVER LAOS.I SPENT A COUPLE TOURS OVER IN SEA THEN OUR AC-130 UNIT(SPECTRE) WAS REASSIGNED TO FLORIDA. I WAS INVOLVED IN THE IRANIAN HOSTAGE RESCUE,JUST CAUSE,AND VARIOUS OTHER MISSIONS. I ALSO INSTRUCTED GROUND FORCE TEAMS IN THE USE OF THE AC-130 DURING TROOPS IN CONTACT MISSIONS OR CLOSE AIR SUPPORT MISSIONS. I WORKED WITH ALL THE ELITE FORCES OF THE ARMY, NAVY AND AIRFORCE. I RETIRED IN 1992 AND I MISS THE MISSION AND THE PEOPLE THAT MADE UP SPECIAL OPS. IF YOU KNOW ANY ONE THAT COULD USE A RETIRED GUNNER LET ME KNOW.

Hollywood had created the 'hero', and special operations is no longer special. It has lost its uniqueness as all elements of the armed forces are developing special operational teams. Probably as a ploy to attract monies from congress at each October assembly. The 'old-timers' of 1970's, 80's, and upto the mid 90's are gone. The SFQC student ratio to special forces instructors who had combat experience was very low. Who remembers when LTC Nick Rowe was the CDR of the TRNG BT, and MAJ Robert Howard would ruck to Camp (26 miles) just to do PT with the students? Who remembers ISG Horn, or ISG Bachelor? or SGM Hopson, when he was an E7? How about CPT Tom Curry? I look in the mirror and see them looking at me, saying "do not forget".
